MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-TREASURER
As Secretary-Treasurer, I oversee the day to day financial operation of the Union, this is the second highest elected position in the Union and is very important. Truly the position of Director of Organizing is more critical to the long term success of our Union.
The most important job of any Local Union is to protect their current members and improve the standard of living for them. For that reason, the most important job of every union member and officer is to grow the size of the Union. There is a direct correlation between the quality of life of union members and the percentage of members that are unionized in that trade.
As non-union retailers continue to steal sales from the unionized companies and those same non-union companies pay substandard wages and provide little or no benefits, the good wages and benefits of our union members continue to come under attack.
It is imperative for Local 655 to begin to grow our union density in order to improve the quality of life of our current members. I continue to look for new ways to help Local 655 grow in size and I welcome the input of you, our members. If you have a thought on this subject or know an employee that needs a union at their place of work, please email me at dpolitte@ufcw655.org. I look forward to continuing to serve our current members and increase our Union in size.
